Institutional Ethnography on the Work of the participants in Senior Employment and Social Activities project: Focusing on Public Interest Activities

Abstract
This study is a research that targets on the systemic experience of elderly participant and also the specific context of this case. And this research is done by Institutional Ethnography in order to understand the ¡®reality¡¯ of institution from older people¡¯s side, who are participating ¡®Senior Employment and Social Activities project¡¯. In order to process this study, in-depth interviews with 11 participants and 6 senior workers, total 17 people, were conducted by means of institutional Ethnography and futhermore we collected related texts. Through the process, work knowledge of elderly participant and the data¡¯s were analyzed. By the standpoint of elderly participants, work organization has been described as the sequence of work. As a result of this analysis, the work of the elderly participant was organized by texts such as application for participation, personal information agreement, selection criteria table, agreement, and activity log, which are originated as income-supplement argument and work argument. Considering this text coordination, unlike the policy insists, older people who participate in Senior Employment and Social Activities project not seem to be proactive or active. Also, even though Senior Employment and Social Activities project made a meaningful contribution to income-supplement, it has been failed to reflect the meaning of working life of elderly such as social participating.
